The Opportunity:

As Head of English, you will lead a dynamic faculty and inspire students from Year 9 through to A Level. This role offers the chance to shape academic excellence and contribute to a supportive, inclusive community.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead and develop the English department, ensuring high-quality teaching and learning across all key stages.
  • Oversee the academic progress and pastoral care of students, with a focus on Oxbridge preparation.
  • Manage and mentor a team of teachers, including the Head of English as an Additional Language.
  • Contribute to the strategic academic development of the school.
  • Foster a culture of creativity, intellectual curiosity, and a love of literature.
  • Collaborate with colleagues across the school to enhance the curriculum and co-curricular opportunities.
  • Support the school’s mission by promoting inclusivity, integrity, and resilience among students.
  • Engage with the wider school community through extracurricular and pastoral activities.

Qualifications & Skills:

Required

  • Proven experience in teaching English at all key stages, including A Level.
  • Demonstrated leadership experience in a school or educational setting.
  • Strong classroom management and pedagogical skills.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal abilities.
  • Commitment to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children.
  • Relevant qualifications in English or a related subject.

Preferred

  • Experience in leading a faculty or department.
  • Familiarity with Oxbridge preparation and admissions processes.
  • Experience in inclusive education and supporting diverse student needs.
  • Knowledge of co-curricular and pastoral care practices.
  • Experience in a boarding or day school environment.
