The Opportunity:
As Head of English, you will lead a dynamic faculty and inspire students from Year 9 through to A Level. This role offers the chance to shape academic excellence and contribute to a supportive, inclusive community.
Key Responsibilities:
- Lead and develop the English department, ensuring high-quality teaching and learning across all key stages.
- Oversee the academic progress and pastoral care of students, with a focus on Oxbridge preparation.
- Manage and mentor a team of teachers, including the Head of English as an Additional Language.
- Contribute to the strategic academic development of the school.
- Foster a culture of creativity, intellectual curiosity, and a love of literature.
- Collaborate with colleagues across the school to enhance the curriculum and co-curricular opportunities.
- Support the school’s mission by promoting inclusivity, integrity, and resilience among students.
- Engage with the wider school community through extracurricular and pastoral activities.
Qualifications & Skills:
Required
- Proven experience in teaching English at all key stages, including A Level.
- Demonstrated leadership experience in a school or educational setting.
- Strong classroom management and pedagogical skills.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal abilities.
- Commitment to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children.
- Relevant qualifications in English or a related subject.
Preferred
- Experience in leading a faculty or department.
- Familiarity with Oxbridge preparation and admissions processes.
- Experience in inclusive education and supporting diverse student needs.
- Knowledge of co-curricular and pastoral care practices.
- Experience in a boarding or day school environment.
