The Opportunity:

We are seeking a passionate and experienced Head of English to lead and inspire the English department. This role offers the chance to shape curriculum development, drive academic excellence, and foster a culture of innovation and inclusivity within a forward-thinking institution.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead and manage the English department, ensuring high-quality teaching and learning across all key stages.
  • Develop and implement a strategic vision for English education aligned with the school’s mission and curriculum standards.
  • Support and mentor teachers to enhance pedagogical practices and student outcomes.
  • Collaborate with other departments to integrate cross-curricular themes and promote a holistic approach to learning.
  • Monitor and evaluate student progress, providing targeted support where needed.
  • Promote a positive and inclusive school culture that encourages student engagement and well-being.
  • Stay up to date with educational trends and innovations, particularly in the use of technology to enhance teaching and learning.
  • Represent the school at internal and external events, contributing to the school’s reputation and community engagement.

Qualifications & Skills:

Required

  • Proven experience as a Head of Department or in a leadership role within English education.
  • Strong subject knowledge in English and a commitment to teaching and learning.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to build positive relationships with students, colleagues, and parents.
  • Experience in curriculum development and delivery across Key Stages 3 to 5.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead and manage a team effectively.

Preferred

  • Experience with the National Curriculum for England and British Schools of the Middle East (BSME) standards.
  • Familiarity with innovative teaching methods, including the use of AR, AI, and digital tools in the classroom.
  • Experience in school leadership and strategic planning.
  • Strong track record in improving student outcomes and academic performance.
