The Opportunity:

As the Head of History, you will lead a high-performing department and shape the strategic direction of History teaching at a school that values academic depth, pastoral care, and innovation. Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead and manage the History department, ensuring high standards of teaching and learning.
  • Develop and implement a strategic vision for the History curriculum, aligned with the school’s educational philosophy.
  • Support and mentor History teachers, fostering a culture of professional growth and collaboration.
  • Deliver high-quality lessons and ensure the successful preparation of students for A Level History.
  • Promote the subject through extracurricular activities and engagement with the wider school community.
  • Contribute to the pastoral and co-curricular life of the school.
  • Work closely with senior leadership to align departmental goals with the school’s strategic priorities.

Qualifications & Skills:

Required

  • Relevant degree and teaching qualification, ideally from a British university.
  • Minimum of three years’ teaching experience in a British curriculum school.
  • PGCE or equivalent teaching qualification.
  • Ability to teach A Level History.
  • Experience in leading and managing a departmental team.
  • Commitment to placing students at the centre of teaching practice.
  • Enthusiasm for professional development and continuous improvement.

Preferred

  • Experience in senior leadership or head of department roles.
  • Strong record of academic achievement and student outcomes.
  • Familiarity with innovative teaching methods and technologies.
  • Experience in a multicultural or international school environment.
