The Opportunity:

As the Head of PE, you will provide strategic leadership to the PE department, driving excellence in teaching, learning, and student outcomes. This role is central to shaping the school's sporting culture and ensuring the delivery of a high-quality, inclusive PE curriculum aligned with British curriculum standards.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead the day-to-day operation and development of the PE department.
  • Support the Director of Sport in delivering the school’s vision for sport and physical wellbeing.
  • Line manage the PE team, ensuring high standards of performance and accountability.
  • Develop and implement a progressive, inclusive, and engaging PE curriculum.
  • Monitor teaching and learning through observations, data analysis, and student feedback.
  • Promote a culture of collaboration, continuous improvement, and professional development.
  • Communicate with parents and students on student progress and attainment.
  • Produce a yearly action plan aligned with the school’s strategic objectives.
  • Evaluate department performance and identify priorities for student development.

Qualifications & Skills:

Required

  • Proven leadership experience in a PE department within a British curriculum school.
  • Strong understanding of GCSE PE and BTEC Sport qualifications.
  • Experience in curriculum planning, assessment, and moderation.
  • Ability to lead and manage a team effectively.
  • Strong communication and organisational skills.
  • Commitment to safeguarding and child protection.

Preferred

  • Experience in a senior leadership role within education.
  • Knowledge of sports and extracurricular programme development.
  • Experience with data-driven decision making and quality assurance processes.
