The Opportunity:
A school is seeking a passionate and dedicated Philosophy Teacher to join its Philosophy, Ethics and Religion (PER) Department. This role offers the opportunity to shape young minds through thought-provoking discussions, debates, and a well-rounded curriculum that extends beyond the classroom.
Key Responsibilities:
- Teach Philosophy, Ethics and Religion to students in Years 7–13, including GCSE and A Level specifications.
- Deliver engaging lessons that encourage critical thinking, reasoning, and analysis.
- Plan and deliver a variety of enrichment activities, such as workshops and trips.
- Promote inclusive and equal teaching practices that support the personal development of all students.
- Collaborate with colleagues to continually improve and develop teaching methods.
- Utilise IT and digital resources to enhance learning and teaching experiences.
- Support students in preparing for higher education, including university applications.
- Maintain strong relationships with students, parents, and colleagues.
Qualifications & Skills:
Required
- A good honours degree in a related subject and a postgraduate certificate in education (QTS).
- Experience of teaching or working with GCSE and Sixth Form aged students.
- Willingness to engage with Continuing Professional Development (CPD).
- Ability to inspire, challenge, and motivate students.
- Proficient in the use of IT and new technologies.
- Commitment to safeguarding, equality, diversity, and inclusion.
- Strong communication skills, both oral and written.
- Emotional intelligence and empathy.
Preferred
- Experience with teaching AQA GCSE RS: Philosophy and Ethics or OCR A Level Philosophy and Ethics.
- Experience in leading or contributing to departmental enrichment activities.
- Experience in pastoral care or student support.
- Familiarity with Socratic questioning and debate-based teaching methods.
