The Opportunity:
A school is seeking a dedicated Philosophy Teacher to join its Philosophy, Ethics and Religion (PER) Department. This role offers the opportunity to inspire students with thought-provoking topics, including ethics, law, philosophy, and more. The successful candidate will contribute to a vibrant department that values continuous professional development and innovative teaching.
Key Responsibilities:
- Teach Philosophy, Ethics and Religion to students across Years 7–13, including GCSE and A Level specifications.
- Deliver engaging lessons that encourage critical thinking, debate, and analytical skills.
- Contribute to departmental enrichment activities, such as workshops, trips, and visits.
- Support students in developing their understanding of philosophical and ethical concepts.
- Promote inclusive and equal learning practices that reflect the school’s values.
- Collaborate with colleagues to enhance teaching and learning strategies.
- Maintain strong relationships with students, parents, and colleagues.
- Stay up to date with current issues in education and personal development.
Qualifications & Skills:
Required
- A good honours degree in a related subject and postgraduate certificate in education (QTS).
- Experience teaching GCSE and Sixth Form aged students.
- Willingness to engage in Continuing Professional Development (CPD).
- Strong communication skills, both oral and written.
- Ability to build and maintain effective relationships with students, parents, and colleagues.
- Commitment to safeguarding, equality, diversity, and inclusion.
Preferred
- Experience with teaching AQA GCSE RS: Philosophy and Ethics or OCR A Level Philosophy.
- Familiarity with Socratic questioning and debate-based learning.
- Experience with using IT and new technologies in teaching.
- Demonstrated ability to inspire, challenge, and motivate students.
