As a School Wellbeing Counsellor, you will provide essential emotional and psychological support to students, helping them navigate personal challenges and build resilience. You will play a key role in promoting a culture of wellbeing, empathy, and inclusion across all phases of the school. Key Responsibilities:
- Provide individual and small-group counselling tailored to students’ emotional, social, and psychological needs.
- Support students with challenges such as anxiety, stress, and personal or family issues through timely, non-judgemental care.
- Develop resilience and emotional intelligence in students, equipping them with tools to manage their wellbeing independently.
- Identify at-risk students and coordinate early interventions, referrals, and follow-up care.
- Lead the development of proactive wellbeing programmes that integrate emotional literacy and positive psychology into school culture.
- Organise and facilitate workshops and awareness initiatives on mental health, online safety, and peer relationships.
- Collaborate with pastoral and safeguarding teams to support anti-bullying strategies and student safety.
- Work closely with teachers and pastoral leaders to ensure a joined-up approach to student development and mental health support.
- Provide guidance to staff on identifying and responding to emotional distress in students.
- Engage with parents to offer practical advice and support in addressing their child’s emotional needs.
- Act as a key member of the safeguarding team, ensuring compliance with child protection laws and best practice.
- Respond promptly and professionally to incidents, disclosures, or emergencies involving students.
- Maintain accurate, confidential case records in line with school policy and data protection regulations.
- Commit to continuous professional learning in child psychology, adolescent mental health, and trauma-informed practice.
Qualifications & Skills:
Required
- Bachelor’s or Master’s Degree in Psychology, Counselling, Social Work, or a related field.
- Recognised counselling qualification or certification (e.g., BACP, Certified School Counsellor).
- Minimum of 3 years of experience as a school counsellor or in a related role.
- Knowledge of local safeguarding laws and child protection standards.
- Fluency in English.
Preferred
- Experience working within an international or National Curriculum for England school.
- Additional language skills.
- Experience with multi-agency collaboration and team-around-the-child meetings.
