The Opportunity:
The Second in Mathematics Department will support the Head of Mathematics in managing the department and contribute to both teaching and pastoral responsibilities. This role offers a unique opportunity to shape the educational experience of students while working within a dynamic and supportive environment.
Key Responsibilities:
- Collaborate with the Head of Department on curriculum planning, implementation, and review.
- Assist with lesson observations and professional development of department members.
- Deputise for the Head of Department in her absence.
- Lead Key Stage 4 mathematics teaching and support student learning.
- Organise and contribute to study clinics, UKMT maths challenges, and other enrichment activities.
- Act as the Departmental SEN representative and liaise with the Learning Support team.
- Support the recruitment, appointment, and induction of new teaching staff.
Qualifications & Skills:
Required
- Qualified teacher with relevant experience in mathematics education.
- Strong organisational and leadership skills.
- Experience in curriculum development and implementation.
- Ability to deputise for the Head of Department when required.
- Commitment to pastoral care and student welfare.
- Experience working with students with special educational needs.
Preferred
- Experience in managing a Key Stage group.
- Familiarity with UKMT maths challenges and other enrichment activities.
- Experience in staff recruitment and induction processes.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Passion for mathematics education and student development.
