The Opportunity:

The Second in Mathematics Department will support the Head of Mathematics in managing the department and contribute to both teaching and pastoral responsibilities. This role offers a unique opportunity to shape the educational experience of students while working within a dynamic and supportive environment.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Collaborate with the Head of Department on curriculum planning, implementation, and review.
  • Assist with lesson observations and professional development of department members.
  • Deputise for the Head of Department in her absence.
  • Lead Key Stage 4 mathematics teaching and support student learning.
  • Organise and contribute to study clinics, UKMT maths challenges, and other enrichment activities.
  • Act as the Departmental SEN representative and liaise with the Learning Support team.
  • Support the recruitment, appointment, and induction of new teaching staff.

Qualifications & Skills:

Required

  • Qualified teacher with relevant experience in mathematics education.
  • Strong organisational and leadership skills.
  • Experience in curriculum development and implementation.
  • Ability to deputise for the Head of Department when required.
  • Commitment to pastoral care and student welfare.
  • Experience working with students with special educational needs.

Preferred

  • Experience in managing a Key Stage group.
  • Familiarity with UKMT maths challenges and other enrichment activities.
  • Experience in staff recruitment and induction processes.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Passion for mathematics education and student development.
