The Opportunity:

A String Teacher (Violin, Viola, Cello, Double Bass) is needed to inspire and guide students across all levels of ability. This role is integral to a thriving music department and offers the chance to work with talented young musicians in a vibrant educational setting.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Teach individual and group lessons to students from Year 2 upwards.
  • Develop and maintain a range of ensembles, including string quartets and orchestras.
  • Inspire and nurture students’ musical development, from beginners to advanced players.
  • Collaborate with other members of the music department to enhance the overall music program.
  • Communicate effectively with students, parents, and colleagues regarding progress and goals.
  • Support the school’s commitment to music education through participation in performances and events.
  • Ensure a safe and inclusive learning environment for all students.
  • Stay up to date with developments in string pedagogy and music education.

Qualifications & Skills:

Required

  • Qualified and experienced string teacher with a strong background in violin, viola, cello, or double bass.
  • Demonstrated ability to teach students of all abilities and ages.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Fluency in English and the ability to work in a UK-based educational setting.
  • Commitment to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children.

Preferred

  • Experience in teaching within a choir school or similar educational setting.
  • Experience in running ensembles or orchestras.
  • Knowledge of music theory and performance practice.
  • Flexibility and adaptability to work within a busy and friendly music department.

Compensation & Benefits:

  • Competitive hourly rate based on the 2025/26 academic year, with an increase in September 2026.
