The Opportunity:

The Senior Deputy Head (Pastoral) plays a key leadership role within the school, working closely with the Head of the Foundation to drive strategic development and pastoral care across the institution. This is a resident role with the opportunity to make a meaningful impact on student well-being and school culture.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide strong leadership and support to the Head of the Foundation in their absence
  • Oversee and develop the pastoral care strategy across the school
  • Act as the Designated Safeguarding Lead (DSL) and ensure compliance with safeguarding policies
  • Work collaboratively with the Lead DDSL and other DSLs to maintain a safe and supportive environment
  • Support the development of a positive and inclusive school culture
  • Ensure the effective implementation of policies and procedures related to student welfare
  • Contribute to the strategic direction of the school and its pastoral framework
  • Maintain strong communication with parents, staff, and external agencies

Qualifications & Skills:

Required

  • Proven experience in a senior leadership role within an educational setting
  • Strong understanding of safeguarding policies and procedures
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to work effectively with students, parents, and staff
  • Experience in managing and leading a pastoral team
  • Commitment to the values and mission of the school

Preferred

  • Experience in a boarding or independent school setting
  • Leadership experience in a large or multi-academy trust environment
  • Experience in strategic planning and development
  • Knowledge of child protection screening processes
  • Experience in managing and supporting students with special educational needs
