The Opportunity:

As a Summer School Pastoral Lead, you will play a vital role in ensuring the safety, welfare, and overall experience of international students aged 11–17 during the summer programme. This leadership position requires a deep understanding of the UK boarding system and the ability to create a supportive, welcoming, and well-organised residential environment that promotes both personal and academic growth.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead and manage the welfare, safety, and day-to-day operation of boarding for international students.
  • Ensure a safe, clean, and welcoming home-from-home environment for students.
  • Develop and implement pastoral care strategies that support student well-being and academic success.
  • Coordinate with staff and external agencies to ensure compliance with safeguarding and welfare standards.
  • Provide guidance and support to students and parents throughout the summer programme.
  • Monitor and maintain high standards of behaviour, discipline, and house management.
  • Foster a positive and inclusive community culture within the boarding environment.
  • Liaise with academic staff to ensure a seamless integration of pastoral and academic support.

Qualifications & Skills:

Required

  • Proven experience in a pastoral or residential leadership role, preferably within the UK boarding system.
  • Strong organisational, communication, and interpersonal skills.
  • Excellent judgment and the ability to make sound decisions under pressure.
  • Demonstrated commitment to student welfare and safeguarding.
  • Experience working with international students and in a multicultural environment.
  • A thorough understanding of child development and pastoral care principles.

Preferred

  • Experience in summer school or short-term educational programmes.
  • Knowledge of safeguarding and safer recruitment practices.
  • Experience with managing boarding operations in a high-intensity, short-term setting.
  • Familiarity with UK education standards and boarding school practices.
  • Leadership experience in a team-based or residential setting.
