Key Responsibilities:

  • Develop and deliver targeted literacy interventions to support ELL students.
  • Identify potential ELL learners and contribute to screening and assessment processes.
  • Collaborate with teachers, parents, and school leadership to support student progress.
  • Design and implement explicit instruction in paragraph writing, sentence cohesion, and academic language.
  • Support small groups through targeted phonics and literacy intervention programs.
  • Stay up-to-date with ELL/EAL best practices and relevant policy in the UAE, UK, and internationally.
  • Participate in extra-curricular and community events to foster inclusion and equity.
  • Work alongside a strong partnership with a feeder primary school to support student journeys.

Qualifications & Skills:

Required

  • A UK-approved ELL/EAL qualification and a relevant PGCE.
  • A literacy-specific qualification such as Orton-Gillingham or equivalent.
  • Ability to identify ELL learners and contribute to screening and assessment processes.
  • Strong communication and collaboration skills.
  • Commitment to inclusion, equity, and student-centered practice.

Preferred

  • Experience teaching ESL GCSE or the capacity to do so.
  • Experience supporting small groups through targeted phonics and literacy intervention.
  • Experience teaching Literacy Lab–style classes.
  • Up-to-date understanding of ELL/EAL and literacy best practice.
