Summary:

Teaching Assistant role at a school in Waterlooville. Support students with SEMH and complex needs.

The Opportunity:

As a Teaching Assistant, you will support students with SEMH and complex needs, helping them build confidence, independence, and curiosity. You will work closely with teachers and support staff to create a positive and engaging learning experience for every pupil.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Support teachers in delivering hands-on, inspiring lessons
  • Lead small groups and provide tailored 1:1 support to meet each pupil’s individual needs
  • Encourage confidence, independence, and curiosity in students
  • Work across indoor and outdoor settings to enhance learning experiences
  • Collaborate with teachers, therapists, and support staff to promote student wellbeing and progress
  • Ensure a safe and nurturing environment for all students
  • Follow school policies and procedures related to safeguarding and student welfare
  • Assist in the planning and delivery of structured learning activities

Qualifications & Skills:

Required

  • Full UK Driving Licence
  • Experience working with children or holding GCSEs in English and Maths
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills
  • Patience, adaptability, and a caring attitude
  • Ability to work as part of a team and contribute to a positive school culture

Preferred

  • Experience in special education or working with students with SEMH challenges
  • Knowledge of trauma-informed and neurodiversity-focused approaches
  • Experience with behaviour management strategies
  • Previous teaching or support assistant experience
