The Opportunity:

As an Art Technician, you will support the day-to-day operation and maintenance of specialist teaching and workshop facilities. This role is ideal for someone with practical making skills and an interest in art and design processes, working within a creative and collaborative department.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Support the operation and maintenance of specialist teaching and workshop facilities.
  • Assist in the organisation and management of wood, plastics, photography, printmaking, ceramics, and fashion and textiles resources.
  • Ensure the safe and effective use of equipment, including laser cutters, bandsaws, sewing machines, and kilns.
  • Collaborate with department staff to deliver a diverse curriculum across A-Level and vocational courses.
  • Maintain a clean, safe, and well-ordered working environment in all workshop and studio areas.
  • Provide technical support to students and teachers during practical sessions.
  • Assist in the development and updating of workshop resources and materials.
  • Work flexibly across different areas of the department to support teaching and learning needs.

Qualifications & Skills:

Required

  • Practical making skills and an interest in art and design processes.
  • Experience working within creative workshop or studio environments.
  • Ability to work collaboratively within a team.
  • Strong organisational and time management skills.
  • Commitment to health and safety standards in a workshop setting.

Preferred

  • Familiarity with workshop tools, equipment, and digital software such as Adobe Creative Suite.
  • Experience with a range of art and design disciplines.
  • Willingness to develop technical knowledge across different areas of the department.
  • Previous experience in an educational or creative sector.
