The Opportunity:

As a Student Counsellor, you will provide essential emotional and therapeutic support to students facing a range of challenges. This role is central to the school’s commitment to Compassionate Education and plays a vital part in promoting mental health, equity, and inclusion across the student body.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide ongoing emotional and therapeutic support to students dealing with a variety of personal and academic issues.
  • Work collaboratively with the Safeguarding and Counselling team to ensure a holistic approach to student wellbeing.
  • Develop and maintain a safe, confidential, and supportive counselling environment.
  • Deliver individual and group sessions in line with best practices and professional standards.
  • Monitor and report on student progress, ensuring timely interventions when needed.
  • Participate in training and professional development opportunities to enhance counselling skills.
  • Contribute to the ongoing development and improvement of the school’s counselling service.
  • Maintain accurate records and documentation in accordance with safeguarding and data protection policies.

Qualifications & Skills:

Required

  • Membership of the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP).
  • Demonstrated experience in providing therapeutic support to young people.
  • Strong communication, organisational, and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work effectively within a multi-disciplinary team.
  • Commitment to safeguarding and student wellbeing.

Preferred

  • Experience working in an educational setting, preferably with 16-19 year olds.
  • Knowledge of Compassionate Education principles and inclusive practices.
  • Experience with mental health and wellbeing initiatives.
  • Familiarity with safeguarding procedures and policies.
