The Opportunity:

As an Assistant Head of Year, you will play a vital role in supporting the Head of Year to deliver high-quality pastoral care. This is a dynamic and impactful position that focuses on improving student behavior, attendance, and overall achievement, while building strong relationships with families and staff.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Support the Head of Year in managing and improving student behavior, attendance, and welfare
  • Work closely with tutors and staff to ensure a consistent and positive learning environment
  • Engage with families to support student progress and address any barriers to learning
  • Monitor and report on student performance and attendance data
  • Develop and implement strategies to improve student outcomes and well-being
  • Collaborate with the senior leadership team to drive school improvement initiatives
  • Provide guidance and support to students in a proactive and empathetic manner
  • Contribute to the development of the school’s pastoral and academic strategies

Qualifications & Skills:

Required

  • Proven experience in a senior pastoral or leadership role within a school setting
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to manage and lead a team effectively
  • Experience in improving student behavior and attendance
  • Knowledge of safeguarding and child protection procedures
  • Commitment to the school’s values and vision

Preferred

  • Experience in a similar role within a large or multi-academy trust
  • Experience in developing and delivering CPD programs
  • Experience with flexible working arrangements
  • Experience in working with a diverse range of students and families
