Head of Year role available – lead pastoral care and student support at a school.

The Opportunity:

The Head of Year will provide essential pastoral support and guidance to students, ensuring their academic progress and well-being. This role is central to maintaining a positive school culture and supporting students through tailored interventions and strong communication with parents and staff.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide pastoral care and support to students in the designated Year group, monitoring their well-being, behaviour, and attendance.
  • Track and monitor academic progress, identifying areas of concern and implementing targeted support strategies.
  • Liaise with parents and guardians to communicate student progress, address concerns, and build positive home-school relationships.
  • Implement and oversee behaviour management policies, promoting positive conduct and resolving disciplinary issues.
  • Collaborate with tutors and staff to ensure a cohesive approach to student support and academic achievement.
  • Develop and deliver mentoring or support programmes where necessary to aid student development.
  • Maintain accurate records and reports on student progress and pastoral care activities.
  • Represent the school at parent-teacher meetings and other relevant events.

Qualifications & Skills:

Required

  • Proven experience in a pastoral or leadership role within an educational setting.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build positive relationships with students, parents, and staff.
  • Ability to manage and lead a team effectively, with a focus on student well-being and academic success.
  • Experience in behaviour management and the implementation of support strategies for students.
  • Commitment to promoting a safe and inclusive school environment.

Preferred

  • Experience in a Head of Year or similar role.
  • Knowledge of student welfare frameworks and support systems.
  • Experience in curriculum development or academic support programmes.
  • Experience in working with diverse student populations and families.
