The Opportunity:

As an Assistant Headteacher SENDCo, you will lead and shape the school’s approach to special educational needs and disabilities. This is a strategic role that supports inclusive education and empowers every student to thrive. You will work alongside senior leaders and external specialists to drive innovation and best practice.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Develop and implement a forward-thinking, inclusive strategy for special educational needs and disabilities.
  • Provide leadership and guidance to staff across the school in promoting inclusive teaching practices.
  • Collaborate with external specialists, parents, and students to ensure individual needs are met effectively.
  • Support the Headteacher and Senior Leadership Team in shaping the school’s educational vision and values.
  • Monitor and evaluate the impact of learning support initiatives to ensure continuous improvement.
  • Promote awareness and understanding of neurodiversity and SEND across the school community.
  • Ensure compliance with statutory requirements and best practice in SEND provision.
  • Lead training and professional development for staff on SEND-related topics.

Qualifications & Skills:

Required

  • Proven experience in a senior leadership role within education, preferably in a school setting.
  • In-depth knowledge of Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND) and neurodiversity.
  • Strong strategic and analytical skills with the ability to develop and implement inclusive policies.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work collaboratively with students, parents, and external agencies.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead and manage a team effectively.
  • Experience in working within a school’s senior leadership team.

Preferred

  • Experience in a similar role within an independent or all-through school.
  • Knowledge of current research and best practice in inclusive education.
  • Experience with curriculum development and learning support strategies.
  • Familiarity with the latest educational technologies and tools for supporting SEND students.
