The Opportunity:
As an Attendance Officer, you will play a vital role in driving whole-school attendance strategies to improve student attendance and reduce persistent absence. This role combines operational and administrative responsibilities with direct engagement with students and parents to address attendance barriers and support attendance improvement.
Key Responsibilities:
- Conduct daily 'Late Gate' patrols to monitor student arrivals and manage attendance.
- Maintain and update the academy’s attendance Management Information System (MIS), including operating automated systems for contacting parents regarding absence.
- Engage directly with students and parents to discuss reasons for absence and provide appropriate support and challenge.
- Prepare and present detailed attendance data for monitoring, reporting, and analysis.
- Process referrals for Fixed Penalty Notices in accordance with school policies.
- Publicise attendance information through various communication channels to raise awareness and encourage improvement.
- Support the implementation of whole-school strategies to improve attendance and reduce persistent absence.
- Maintain accurate and up-to-date records in the MIS and other relevant systems.
Qualifications & Skills:
Required
- Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written, to engage effectively with students, parents, and colleagues.
- Strong time management and organisational skills to manage a varied and demanding workload.
- Proficiency in standard ICT packages, particularly Microsoft Office and Excel.
- Resilience and the ability to work in challenging situations, including managing conflict professionally.
- Experience in a school environment or attendance-related role is desirable.
- Ability to build and maintain effective working relationships with students, parents, and colleagues.
Preferred
- Experience using CMIS or SIMS software for attendance management.
- Previous experience in a role involving direct engagement with students and parents.
- Familiarity with data analysis and reporting tools.
