The Opportunity:
As a Chemistry Technician, you will play a vital role in supporting the Chemistry Department by preparing equipment and apparatus for teaching and learning. Your work will directly contribute to the quality of practical learning experiences for students and ensure the smooth running of laboratory activities.
Key Responsibilities:
- Prepare and maintain laboratory equipment and apparatus in line with teaching requirements.
- Assist in the setup and breakdown of experiments and demonstrations for classes.
- Ensure all laboratory areas are clean, safe, and compliant with health and safety standards.
- Support the Chemistry Department with the storage and management of chemicals and consumables.
- Collaborate with teachers to ensure that practical sessions are well-organised and run efficiently.
- Monitor and report on the condition of laboratory equipment and recommend replacements or repairs as needed.
- Maintain accurate records of laboratory usage and inventory.
- Provide assistance during science fairs, open days, and other school events where laboratory demonstrations are required.
Qualifications & Skills:
Required
- Experience in a laboratory or technical role, preferably in an educational setting.
- Strong organisational and time management skills.
- Ability to follow safety procedures and maintain a clean, safe working environment.
- Basic knowledge of chemistry and laboratory practices.
- Excellent attention to detail and a methodical approach to work.
Preferred
- Experience working in a school or college laboratory.
- Knowledge of current science curriculum requirements.
- Experience with laboratory information management systems.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
