The Opportunity:

As a Deputy SENCO, you will play a key role in supporting the strategic and operational leadership of SEND provision across the school, with a specific focus on students with Education, Health and Care Plans (EHCPs). This is an opportunity to make a real impact on student attainment, engagement, and emotional wellbeing at Key Stage 3.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead EHCP Annual Reviews and student-centred reviews
  • Oversee Key Stage 3 SEN provision and interventions, including phonics, ELSA, and AQA UAS
  • Manage and support staff delivering SEND provision
  • Coordinate Year 6 SEND transition and primary liaison
  • Improve attendance, engagement, and emotional wellbeing for SEND and disadvantaged students
  • Deliver and model adaptive teaching practice for Key Stage 3
  • Support the SENCO in the absence and during statutory responsibilities
  • Allocate and manage a protected time for SEND leadership and statutory duties

Qualifications & Skills:

Required

  • Qualified teacher with strong SEND experience
  • Willingness to work towards NASENCO or NPQSEN qualification
  • Experience in leading and managing SEND provision
  • Strong understanding of SEND policy and statutory responsibilities
  • Excellent communication and organisational skills

Preferred

  • Experience in secondary or primary education
  • Experience with EHCPs and student-centred reviews
  • Knowledge of AQA Unit Award Scheme and Emotional Literacy Support (ELSA)
  • Experience in improving attendance and emotional wellbeing for SEND students
  • Experience in curriculum development and delivery for Key Stage 3
