The Opportunity:
As a Designated Safeguarding Officer, you will play a vital role in ensuring the safety and well-being of students. You will work closely with staff, students, parents, and external agencies to implement effective safeguarding practices. This role is essential in maintaining a secure and supportive learning environment.
Key Responsibilities:
- Maintain a visible presence in staffrooms to provide early advice on safeguarding concerns
- Meet with students to assess risks, offer support, and develop appropriate safeguarding plans
- Keep accurate and detailed records of all safeguarding-related activities
- Collaborate with the team to create college-wide safeguarding resources and staff training
- Attend multi-agency meetings (e.g., EH, CIN, and CP) to ensure a coordinated approach to student safety
- Liaise with external agencies, including social services and education professionals
- Ensure all safeguarding procedures are followed in line with statutory guidance
- Provide professional advice and support to colleagues on safeguarding matters
Qualifications & Skills:
Required
- Proven experience in a safeguarding role within an educational setting
- Strong understanding of child protection policies and procedures
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
- Ability to maintain accurate records and report effectively
- Resilience and the ability to work under pressure
- Knowledge of professional boundaries and confidentiality
- Commitment to safeguarding and student welfare
Preferred
- Experience with multi-agency working and collaboration
- Experience in developing training materials or resources
- Experience in managing safeguarding cases from initial concern to resolution
- Experience with statutory safeguarding frameworks and guidelines
