The Opportunity:

As Director of Drama, you will lead a dynamic department and inspire students through a rich and engaging drama curriculum. This role offers the chance to shape the performing arts programme and contribute to a supportive, creative school community.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide inspirational leadership to ensure academic excellence and pupil progress within the Drama department.
  • Plan and oversee the department's curriculum, including schemes of work and policies, ensuring continuous improvement in teaching and learning.
  • Direct large-scale productions, musicals, and other collaborative projects, fostering a love of drama and performance among students.
  • Manage departmental resources effectively and safely, maintaining a stimulating learning environment.
  • Monitor and support the progress of students, including those with SEND and EAL, to ensure every pupil thrives.
  • Actively contribute to the co-curricular life of the school by organising drama-related activities, trips, and events.
  • Teach across the secondary age range, delivering high-quality lessons that inspire and challenge students.

Qualifications & Skills:

Required

  • Proven experience as an outstanding classroom practitioner and theatre-maker.
  • Expertise in teaching Drama at Key Stage 3, GCSE, and A Level, with familiarity in the AQA specifications.
  • Strong organisational and leadership skills, with the ability to manage a team and coordinate departmental activities.
  • Commitment to creating an inclusive learning environment that ensures equal opportunities for all students.
  • Excellent communication skills and the ability to collaborate effectively with colleagues, students, and parents.

Preferred

  • Experience in directing large-scale productions or musicals.
  • Familiarity with co-curricular drama activities and events.
  • Experience in managing and developing a drama department.
