The Opportunity:

As an EAL Teacher, you will support students in developing academic English proficiency and cultural integration. This role is ideal for educators passionate about inclusive learning and making a meaningful impact in a dynamic school setting.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Design and implement differentiated EAL lessons to support students with varying levels of English proficiency.
  • Utilise a range of teaching methods and technology to enhance language acquisition and engagement.
  • Conduct baseline assessments and monitor student progress through formative evaluations.
  • Reassess students at the end of each term and provide detailed reports to parents.
  • Collaborate with classroom teachers to provide targeted language support across subjects.
  • Develop resources and strategies to help mainstream teachers support EAL learners.
  • Engage with parents to inform them of student progress and provide guidance for language development at home.
  • Stay current with best practices in EAL teaching and contribute to professional development initiatives.
  • Attend school meetings, parent-teacher conferences, and other events as required.
  • Contribute to the extra-curricular life of the school as needed.

Qualifications & Skills:

Required

  • Minimum two (2) years of teaching EAL or ESL to primary or secondary learners, ideally in an international school setting.
  • A Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Education with a recognised teaching qualification (e.g., PGDE, PGCE, NIE Diploma) or valid Teacher Licence / QTS.
  • Familiarity with the Cambridge International Curriculum is preferred.

  • Strong understanding of English language acquisition and strategies for supporting EAL learners.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills with the ability to build relationships with students, staff, and parents.
  • Cultural sensitivity and the ability to work effectively in a diverse, international environment.
  • Strong organisational skills and the ability to manage time effectively.
  • Proficiency in using technology to enhance language learning.
  • Collaborative approach to working with colleagues and a commitment to ongoing professional development.
