The Opportunity:
As an English Teacher, you will play a key role in shaping the academic and personal development of students aged 11–18. This position includes teaching IGCSE English and potentially Media Studies, with a focus on fostering creativity, critical thinking, and communication skills.
Key Responsibilities:
- Develop and deliver engaging lessons aligned with the school’s schemes of work.
- Contribute to the planning, evaluation, and improvement of departmental policies and curricula.
- Uphold high standards of teaching, preparation, and student discipline.
- Integrate technology effectively into the English curriculum.
- Participate in whole-school events such as Book Week and Public Speaking Week.
- Set clear expectations for student learning and provide constructive feedback.
- Communicate regularly with parents through conferences and progress reports.
- Collaborate with the Student Support Team to meet individual student needs.
- Support students through pastoral roles, including Form Tutor responsibilities.
- Promote cross-curricular links and opportunities for applying English skills.
- Engage in continuous professional development and stay updated with teaching strategies and examination requirements.
Qualifications & Skills:
Required
- Proven experience and passion for teaching English at KS3, IGCSE, and A Level (or equivalent).
- Strong communication and classroom management skills.
- Commitment to student welfare and academic achievement.
- Ability to work collaboratively within a team environment.
- Willingness to take on pastoral responsibilities.
Preferred
- Experience teaching Media Studies up to IGCSE level (or equivalent).
- Familiarity with international curricula and assessment standards.
- Experience with child protection policies and procedures.
- Demonstrated ability to support student wellbeing and character development.
