The Opportunity:
The Head of Biology will lead the department and play a key role in shaping the academic direction of the school. This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced educator to influence teaching practices, support staff development, and ensure the delivery of high-quality biology education.
Key Responsibilities:
- Develop and implement the annual Department Development Plan, setting departmental targets and analyzing exam results.
- Select the most appropriate examination board and courses for students.
- Oversee the production and distribution of Course Notes to students.
- Organize and lead departmental meetings to promote teamwork and best practice.
- Support the recruitment, induction, and professional development of teaching staff.
- Conduct lesson observations and provide feedback to colleagues.
- Assist in student recruitment and provide academic guidance to parents and students.
- Deliver high-quality lessons in line with the Scheme of Work and examination specifications.
Qualifications & Skills:
Required
- A degree in Biology or a related subject
- Experience teaching students aged 14+ in an educational setting
- Experience in line management and coaching
- Strong knowledge of EAL practices and curriculum initiatives
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office and online systems/databases
- Commitment to safeguarding and promoting student welfare
Preferred
- Experience in developing and implementing teaching strategies
- Awareness of developments in Biology education at Key Stage 4 and post-16 levels
- Experience with student discipline and behavior management
- A team-focused attitude and willingness to support colleagues
