The Opportunity:

As the Head of Science, you will lead and inspire a team of educators, driving excellence in science teaching and student achievement. This role is central to shaping a high-quality, innovative curriculum and fostering a culture of continuous professional development and academic success.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead and manage a team of science teachers and support staff to ensure high-quality teaching and learning.
  • Oversee the development and implementation of the science curriculum across all key stages.
  • Promote and support continuous professional development for staff to enhance teaching standards.
  • Monitor and evaluate student progress, ensuring outstanding academic outcomes and personal development.
  • Collaborate with external partners, including universities and industry leaders, to enrich learning experiences.
  • Represent the science department within the school and wider educational community.
  • Ensure a safe, inclusive, and supportive learning environment for all students.
  • Develop and maintain strong links with the school’s sponsor and other key stakeholders.

Qualifications & Skills:

Required

  • Proven leadership experience in a science department or similar educational setting.
  • Qualified teacher with relevant subject knowledge in science.
  • Strong track record in delivering high-quality teaching and student outcomes.
  • Experience in managing and developing a team of educators.
  • Commitment to continuous professional development and innovation in teaching.

Preferred

  • Experience in working with industry and university partners.
  • Familiarity with employer challenge projects and contextualised learning.
  • Experience in developing students’ employability and technical skills.
  • Knowledge of higher education pathways and progression opportunities.
