The Opportunity:

As Head of History and Politics, you will lead a dynamic department and shape the curriculum and co-curriculum for students across all key stages. This is an opportunity to influence the future of history education and inspire a new generation of learners.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead and manage the History and Politics department, ensuring high standards of teaching and learning.
  • Develop and deliver a stimulating and challenging curriculum for Key Stages 3, 4, and 5.
  • Support and mentor department members, fostering a culture of continuous improvement.
  • Oversee the planning and delivery of Sixth Form History and Politics experiences, including Year 11 retention strategies.
  • Promote the department both within the school and in the wider community.
  • Collaborate with colleagues to enhance student achievement and engagement.
  • Organise and lead extra-curricular activities and trips that enrich the student experience.
  • Ensure effective use of ICT and a range of teaching methods to enhance learning outcomes.

Qualifications & Skills:

Required

  • A good degree in History or Politics, or an appropriate subject, with a recognised teaching qualification and QTS.
  • Experience of teaching all Key Stages.
  • Strong subject knowledge and a passion for History.
  • Excellent classroom management and teaching skills.
  • Strong written and verbal communication abilities.
  • Strong organisational skills and a willingness to take on new challenges.
  • Ability to work both independently and collaboratively.
  • Experience in marking and moderating A Level History coursework.

Preferred

  • Experience in school management.
  • Experience in marking GCSE and/or A Level exams.
