The Opportunity:

We are seeking an experienced and visionary Head of English Department to lead and inspire a team of educators. This role is pivotal in shaping the academic direction of the English curriculum and ensuring high standards of teaching and learning. The successful candidate will play a key role in fostering a culture of excellence, innovation, and student achievement.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead and manage the English Department, ensuring alignment with the school’s academic vision and curriculum standards.
  • Develop and implement strategies to enhance teaching quality, student outcomes, and staff professional development.
  • Oversee the planning, delivery, and assessment of the English curriculum across all year groups.
  • Collaborate with senior leadership to contribute to school-wide strategic planning and policy development.
  • Foster a supportive and collaborative environment among staff, promoting best practices and continuous improvement.
  • Monitor and evaluate student progress, providing guidance and support to teachers to ensure consistent academic standards.
  • Represent the school at external events, conferences, and meetings, promoting the school’s educational philosophy and achievements.
  • Lead and support the development of extracurricular activities related to English and literature.

Qualifications & Skills:

Required

  • Proven experience as a Head of Department or in a senior leadership role within an international school setting.
  • Strong leadership and management skills with the ability to inspire and motivate a team of educators.
  • In-depth knowledge of the English National Curriculum and its international adaptations.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build strong relationships with colleagues, students, and parents.
  • Demonstrated ability to drive academic excellence and continuous improvement in teaching and learning.
  • Commitment to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people.

Preferred

  • Experience working in a multicultural environment with a diverse student and staff population.
  • Familiarity with international accreditation standards such as CIS or COBIS.
  • Experience with innovative teaching methods and the use of technology in the classroom.
  • Strong background in curriculum development and assessment practices.
  • Experience in leading or contributing to extracurricular programs or student enrichment initiatives.
