The Opportunity:

As the Head of English, you will lead the English Department and drive academic excellence in A Level Language & Literature. This role offers the chance to shape curriculum development, mentor colleagues, and inspire students to achieve outstanding outcomes.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead and develop the English Department, ensuring high standards of teaching and learning.
  • Deliver and oversee the teaching of A Level Language & Literature, in line with the British curriculum.
  • Support and mentor colleagues, fostering a collaborative and high-performing department culture.
  • Drive curriculum development and continuous improvement across all key stages.
  • Promote a culture of excellence and academic achievement within the department.
  • Contribute to the wider life of the school through leadership and professional engagement.
  • Ensure effective communication and collaboration with other departments and stakeholders.
  • Monitor and evaluate student progress, providing targeted support where needed.

Qualifications & Skills:

Required

  • Proven experience in leading and managing a department of teachers.
  • Strong track record of teaching the British curriculum at post-16 level.
  • In-depth knowledge of the Cambridge and IB (International Baccalaureate) programmes.
  • Excellent communication and leadership skills.
  • Commitment to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children.

Preferred

  • Experience in curriculum development and innovation.
  • Background in teaching English as a second language.
  • Experience in a British or international school setting.
  • Strong understanding of assessment and student progress tracking.
