The Opportunity:

As the Head of History Department, you will lead a team of dedicated educators, shaping a curriculum that inspires critical thinking and historical inquiry. This role offers the chance to influence student learning, drive academic excellence, and contribute to a vibrant educational community.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Plan, implement, and review the History curriculum to ensure it is engaging, rigorous, and aligned with school objectives.
  • Develop detailed schemes of work that integrate historical inquiry, critical analysis, and diverse perspectives.
  • Monitor and analyse student performance data to create action plans that improve learning outcomes.
  • Ensure consistent assessment, recording, and standardisation of student work across the department.
  • Manage departmental resources, including books, materials, and technology, to create a stimulating learning environment.
  • Support and mentor teaching staff, contributing to their professional development and performance management.
  • Oversee the use of school management software for curriculum planning and resource sharing.
  • Plan and deliver subject-specific professional development sessions for department staff.
  • Lead departmental meetings, ensuring effective communication and follow-up on action points.
  • Organise extracurricular activities such as field trips, research projects, and historical debates.

Qualifications & Skills:

Required

  • Bachelor’s degree in History or a related subject, along with a recognised teaching qualification.
  • Minimum five years of teaching experience, with prior leadership or Head of Department experience preferred.
  • Strong understanding of historical curriculum design and inquiry-based learning.

Preferred

  • Experience in international school settings.
  • Expertise in emerging trends in historical education, such as digital archives and interdisciplinary approaches.
  • Experience with assessment and data analysis in education.
