The Opportunity:

As the Head of Humanities Department, you will lead a high-performing team and drive excellence in teaching and learning across all phases of Humanities. This role offers the chance to shape curriculum design, foster a culture of curiosity and innovation, and make a meaningful impact on student achievement and progress.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide strategic and academic leadership for the Humanities department, ensuring alignment with whole-school goals and the National Curriculum for England.
  • Model outstanding teaching and learning, setting high expectations for pedagogy, assessment, and student outcomes.
  • Oversee curriculum development, assessment policies, and data analysis to drive continuous improvement.
  • Support, mentor, and develop teachers within the department through coaching, feedback, and professional development.
  • Foster a positive, collaborative team environment that encourages innovation and reflective practice.
  • Use assessment data effectively to identify areas for improvement and to support personalised learning.
  • Promote a love of Humanities across the school through enrichment, competitions, and co-curricular initiatives.
  • Communicate effectively with parents, colleagues, and school leadership to ensure strong progress tracking and reporting.

Qualifications & Skills:

Required

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Humanities or a closely related field, plus a recognised teaching qualification (PGCE, QTS, or equivalent).
  • A deep understanding of the National Curriculum for England and effective teaching methodologies.
  • Strong understanding of data analysis, curriculum planning, and assessment for learning.

Preferred

  • Experience in an international or British curriculum school.
  • Proven leadership experience within a department or key stage.
  • Experience in curriculum design and assessment strategies.
