The Opportunity:

As the Head of Mathematics, you will lead and shape Maths provision in a highly supportive and collaborative team, playing a pivotal role in delivering an inclusive and impactful curriculum that empowers students with Specific Learning Differences to succeed.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead and shape the development of a thoughtfully sequenced Mathematics curriculum tailored to the needs of students with Specific Learning Differences.
  • Work closely with a multidisciplinary team, including Educational Psychologists, Speech and Language Therapists, and Occupational Therapists, to ensure inclusive and responsive teaching.
  • Model excellent practice and foster a love of Mathematics that empowers students to achieve with confidence and resilience.
  • Support small class sizes to deliver high-quality teaching and a highly personalised approach to learning.
  • Ensure that mathematical learning is engaging, deepens understanding, and removes barriers to success in numeracy and mathematical thinking.
  • Collaborate with specialist teachers to develop and implement strategies that support individual learning needs.
  • Promote a culture of continuous improvement and professional development within the Mathematics department.
  • Contribute to the school’s mission by creating a learning environment that celebrates individual strengths and builds confidence.

Qualifications & Skills:

Required

  • Proven leadership experience in a Mathematics department, preferably within a special needs or inclusive education setting.
  • Strong subject knowledge in Mathematics and a commitment to innovative, inclusive teaching practices.
  • Experience working with students with Specific Learning Differences, including dyslexia, dyscalculia, and dyspraxia.
  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills, with the ability to work effectively in a multidisciplinary team.
  • A relevant teaching qualification and experience in curriculum development and delivery.

Preferred

  • Experience in leading or contributing to research into effective teaching methods for students with learning difficulties.
  • Familiarity with dyslexia-friendly teaching strategies and resources.
  • Experience with differentiated instruction and individualised learning plans.
  • Leadership in school-wide initiatives or professional development programs.
