The Opportunity:

As a Higher Level Teaching Assistant – Reserve (Café Intervention), you will support students with complex learning disabilities through meaningful work experience in the school’s on-site café. This role is ideal for those looking to make a real impact in a supportive and dynamic environment.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Support students aged 5-19 with complex learning disabilities through functional and motivational work experience in the café.
  • Promote teaching and learning in work-related activities, helping students develop independence and self-confidence.
  • Deliver delegated learning activities that challenge and engage learners.
  • Assist with café operations, including collating orders and managing student shift rotas.
  • Monitor student progress and mentor Teaching Assistants.
  • Contribute to lesson planning and preparation alongside teachers.
  • Provide emergency cover for short-term teacher absences.
  • Support emotional regulation and use safe physical intervention strategies when necessary.

Qualifications & Skills:

Required

  • Qualified Higher Level Teaching Assistant or experienced Teaching Assistant ready to undertake HLTA training.
  • Ability to work with students with complex learning needs, social communication and behavioural challenges.
  • Strong communication and organisational skills.
  • Commitment to safeguarding and promoting student welfare.

Preferred

  • Experience in a special needs or educational setting.
  • Experience with work-related learning or vocational training.
  • Experience with physical intervention strategies.
  • Knowledge of teaching English as a Second Language (ESOL) or similar skills.
