Key Responsibilities:
- Lead and inspire a successful department with a focus on academic excellence and student achievement.
- Deliver and oversee innovative, engaging, and academically rigorous teaching at all key stages.
- Ensure high-quality curriculum provision across KS3, GCSE, and A Level.
- Monitor and analyse pupil progress data to support individual student success.
- Maintain high standards of assessment, marking, recording, and feedback.
- Provide clear vision and strategic direction for the department.
- Support and develop colleagues through lesson observation, marking scrutiny, and appraisal.
- Lead weekly departmental meetings and contribute to whole-school professional development.
- Manage the departmental budget and resources effectively.
- Ensure health and safety compliance and conduct risk assessments.
- Promote Chemistry within the school and to prospective pupils and parents.
- Provide a stimulating programme of enrichment and extra-curricular opportunities.
Qualifications & Skills:
Required
- Strong subject knowledge and experience in teaching Chemistry at all key stages.
- Proven leadership experience in a departmental role or willingness to take on leadership responsibilities.
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
- Commitment to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children.
- Ability to manage a departmental budget and resources effectively.
Preferred
- Experience in leading a department and driving innovation in teaching and learning.
- Experience with professional development and mentoring of new teachers.
- Involvement in external networks or science forums.
- Experience in curriculum development and assessment strategies.
