Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead and inspire a successful department with a focus on academic excellence and student achievement.
  • Deliver and oversee innovative, engaging, and academically rigorous teaching at all key stages.
  • Ensure high-quality curriculum provision across KS3, GCSE, and A Level.
  • Monitor and analyse pupil progress data to support individual student success.
  • Maintain high standards of assessment, marking, recording, and feedback.
  • Provide clear vision and strategic direction for the department.
  • Support and develop colleagues through lesson observation, marking scrutiny, and appraisal.
  • Lead weekly departmental meetings and contribute to whole-school professional development.
  • Manage the departmental budget and resources effectively.
  • Ensure health and safety compliance and conduct risk assessments.
  • Promote Chemistry within the school and to prospective pupils and parents.
  • Provide a stimulating programme of enrichment and extra-curricular opportunities.

Qualifications & Skills:

Required

  • Strong subject knowledge and experience in teaching Chemistry at all key stages.
  • Proven leadership experience in a departmental role or willingness to take on leadership responsibilities.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Commitment to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children.
  • Ability to manage a departmental budget and resources effectively.

Preferred

  • Experience in leading a department and driving innovation in teaching and learning.
  • Experience with professional development and mentoring of new teachers.
  • Involvement in external networks or science forums.
  • Experience in curriculum development and assessment strategies.
