The Opportunity:

We are seeking a dynamic and accomplished individual to serve as Head of Organ Studies and School Organist, playing a pivotal role in shaping the musical and liturgical life of the school. This is an opportunity to lead in a department with a strong and established organ tradition, contributing to the academic and co-curricular development of students.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead and develop the Organ Studies curriculum, preparing students for diploma-level performance and Oxbridge organ scholarships.
  • Teach academic Music across the Senior School, including A Level and Oxbridge entry, with a focus on Harmony.
  • Deliver individual organ and piano lessons to students across the school.
  • Coordinate and manage the annual Jennifer Bate Organ Academy.
  • Play for midweek and Sunday Chapel services, working closely with the Chaplain and Chapel staff.
  • Accompany choirs, ensembles, productions, and concerts, and support examinations and festivals.
  • Assist with Senior School Informal Concerts and act as Assistant Musical Director for whole-school musical productions.
  • Contribute actively to departmental activities and school events.

Qualifications & Skills:

Required

  • High-level organist with ARCO or equivalent qualification.
  • Strong keyboard and sight-reading skills.
  • Strong ICT skills for administration and record-keeping.
  • Experience in teaching academic Music and Harmony.
  • Ability to prepare students for Oxbridge organ scholarships.

Preferred

  • Experience in chamber coaching and working with choirs.
  • Experience in music performance or ensemble work.
  • Experience with school-based Initial Teacher Training (ITT) programmes.
  • Background in liturgical music and Chapel services.
