The Opportunity:

As an Operations Manager Premises, you will oversee the efficient running of estates and maintenance operations, ensuring a safe, compliant, and high-quality service. This role is central to the school’s long-term development and daily operations, offering a chance to shape the future of a historic institution.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Manage and lead a multi-skilled team in estates and maintenance, including carpentry, joinery, plumbing, and electrical trades.
  • Oversee both reactive and planned maintenance using a CAFM system, meeting KPIs and compliance standards.
  • Collaborate with the Premises Director and Project Surveyor on planned works and long-term estates strategy.
  • Act as Principal Contractor under CDM regulations where required.
  • Lead performance, training, and resource planning for premises supervisors and other team members.
  • Ensure value for money and maintain excellent stakeholder engagement across the school.
  • Contribute to the development and implementation of a 10-year estates plan.
  • Monitor and maintain the highest standards of service, safety, and compliance.

Qualifications & Skills:

Required

  • Strong operational experience in construction or estates management.
  • Excellent communication and leadership skills.
  • Proven ability to manage a multi-skilled team.
  • Experience with CAFM systems and compliance standards.
  • Understanding of CDM regulations and health and safety requirements.

Preferred

  • Experience in a school or educational institution setting.
  • Background in project management or strategic planning.
  • Knowledge of long-term estates and development planning.
  • Experience with budget management and resource allocation.
