The Opportunity:

A school is seeking a highly motivated and experienced Primary Teacher - Special Needs to join its team. This role is crucial in supporting the academic and personal development of pupils with special educational needs. The successful candidate will contribute to a positive, inclusive, and nurturing learning environment.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Deliver high-quality, individualized teaching to pupils with autism and communication difficulties
  • Develop and implement strategies to support pupils in accessing the curriculum
  • Work closely with speech and language therapists and other professionals to meet student needs
  • Create and maintain visual aids, Makaton signing, and other communication tools
  • Support the development of individual behavior and education plans
  • Promote positive behavior through social stories and consistent approaches
  • Collaborate with colleagues to ensure a cohesive and supportive learning environment
  • Monitor and report on pupil progress and development regularly

Qualifications & Skills:

Required

  • Qualified teacher with experience in special needs education
  • Proven ability to teach pupils with autism and communication difficulties
  • Understanding of SEN and the ability to adapt teaching methods accordingly
  • Experience in supporting pupils with challenging behavior
  • Strong communication and teamwork skills
  • Commitment to inclusive education and student-centered learning

Preferred

  • Experience with Makaton signing or visual communication tools
  • Familiarity with social stories and behavior management strategies
  • Experience working with children with sensory needs
  • Background in developing individualized education plans
  • Experience with visual timetables and other visual supports
