As a Teaching Assistant, you will play a vital role in supporting students with special educational needs in a primary school setting. You will assist teachers in delivering the curriculum, prepare resources, and provide supervision during lunchtimes. Key Responsibilities:

  • Assist teachers in delivering lessons and supporting students during classroom activities.
  • Prepare and organize teaching resources to support curriculum delivery.
  • Provide supervision and support during lunchtimes and breaks.
  • Support students with autism, communication, and behavioral needs using visual and sensory strategies.
  • Work closely with teachers and support staff to develop individualized learning plans.
  • Implement social stories and behavior management strategies as needed.
  • Assist with the use of Makaton signing and visual supports to aid communication.
  • Help students develop social and life skills through structured activities.

Qualifications & Skills:

Required

  • Understanding of children with special needs, particularly those with autism and communication difficulties.
  • Experience or qualifications in supporting children with behavioral or communication challenges.
  • Commitment to working in a positive and supportive environment.
  • Ability to work as part of a team and follow school policies and procedures.

Preferred

  • Graduate or higher education qualification.
  • Experience in teaching or supporting students in a special needs setting.
  • Knowledge of Makaton signing or other communication support methods.
  • Experience with visual aids and sensory strategies for learning support.
