The Opportunity:

We are seeking a dedicated Private High School Tutor to provide after-school and weekend academic support to a motivated and capable high school student in Austin, Texas. The ideal candidate will help the student develop strong executive functioning skills, manage her workload, and succeed in core high school subjects.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Support the student in completing current coursework and managing her academic workload.
  • Help build essential executive functioning skills such as time management, long-range planning, and self-direction.
  • Provide clear, written instructions and reinforce key concepts through visual and written methods.
  • Assist the student in refining her work, ensuring she completes, checks, revises, and corrects her assignments.
  • Offer patient, structured instruction in subjects such as mathematics, science, algebra, geometry, and physics.
  • Support the student’s strengths in English, history, Latin, and creative writing, helping her develop these further.
  • Encourage the student to slow down and build genuine understanding rather than rushing through difficult material.
  • Maintain open communication with the student's parents and welcome their collaborative oversight.

Qualifications & Skills:

Required

  • Strong subject knowledge across core high school disciplines including mathematics, science, English, history, and Latin.
  • Experience working with students who benefit from written instructions and clear, structured learning.
  • Excellent organizational and time-management skills.
  • Patience, flexibility, and a warm, personable demeanor.
  • Ability to work independently and manage the tutoring relationship effectively.

Preferred

  • Experience supporting students with auditory processing challenges.
  • Background in teaching or tutoring high school students.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Experience with executive functioning development and study skills coaching.

Compensation & Benefits:

  • Competitive stipend to cover housing and transportation costs.
  • Minimum of 9 weeks of annual leave, with flexibility to take time off as agreed.
  • Two consecutive days off per week, normally Friday and Saturday.
