The Opportunity:

As a School Attendance Officer, you will play a vital role in improving student attendance and reducing persistent absence. This position involves a blend of operational, administrative, and outreach duties, with a focus on supporting students and families to ensure consistent school attendance.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Conduct daily 'Late Gate' patrols and maintain accurate attendance records using the Management Information System.
  • Engage directly with students and parents to address attendance barriers and provide appropriate support.
  • Prepare and present detailed attendance data for monitoring and reporting purposes.
  • Process referrals for Fixed Penalty Notices in line with school policies.
  • Publicise attendance information through various channels to promote awareness and encourage improvement.
  • Support the Senior Leadership Team in ensuring compliance with safeguarding procedures.
  • Act as a key liaison point between the school and external agencies.

Qualifications & Skills:

Required

  • Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written, with the ability to engage effectively with students, parents, and staff.
  • Strong time management and organisational abilities.
  • Proficiency in standard ICT packages, particularly Microsoft Office and Excel.
  • Emotional resilience and the ability to work in challenging situations, including conflict resolution.
  • A satisfactory DBS check.

Preferred

  • Experience in a school environment or in a role related to attendance management.
  • Familiarity with CMIS or SIMS software.
  • Experience in safeguarding procedures and working with external agencies.
