School Organist needed for September 2026. Play a key role in musical worship and teaching.

The Opportunity:

As School Organist, you will be central to the musical life of the school, playing a vital role in worship and performance within the Chapel. This role offers the chance to inspire students through organ tuition and contribute to a rich and dynamic music department.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Play the organ or piano for assemblies and services in the Chapel, including morning sessions and special events such as Remembrance Day and Leavers’ Service.
  • Deliver organ tuition to students of all ages and abilities, preparing them for performances, exams, and scholarships.
  • Support the Chapel’s musical atmosphere and ensure high-quality performances during key school events.
  • Collaborate with the Music Department to enhance the school’s musical offerings and student engagement.
  • Maintain and develop the Chapel’s musical traditions and repertoire.
  • Provide guidance and mentorship to students interested in pursuing music at a professional level.
  • Participate in additional services and events as required, ensuring a consistent and inspiring musical experience.
  • Work flexibly within a term-time only schedule, with opportunities to combine roles if appropriate.

Qualifications & Skills:

Required

  • Exceptional organ playing skills, with the ability to perform a wide range of musical styles and repertoire.
  • Experience in delivering music tuition to students of varying ages and abilities.
  • Strong commitment to musical excellence and the ability to inspire young musicians.
  • Flexibility to work within a term-time schedule and adapt to the needs of the school calendar.
  • Willingness to undergo safeguarding checks and child protection screening.

Preferred

  • Experience in a school or educational setting, particularly in a chapel or worship environment.
  • Knowledge of the history and construction of pipe organs, including the Hunter and Son organ in use at the school.
  • Ability to read and interpret musical scores with accuracy and confidence.
  • Experience in teaching and mentoring students for music examinations or scholarships.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to work collaboratively with students, staff, and parents.
