The Opportunity:
As a Secondary School Counsellor, you will play a vital role in supporting the social, emotional, and academic wellbeing of students. You will provide individual and group counselling, contribute to wellbeing initiatives, and work closely with students, families, and staff to ensure every student thrives.
Key Responsibilities:
- Provide individual and group counselling to students, supporting their emotional wellbeing and resilience.
- Support students through critical incidents and crises, contributing to risk assessments and intervention plans.
- Refer students to external specialists when necessary, in collaboration with the DSL and families.
- Contribute to the development and delivery of the school’s wellbeing curriculum and initiatives.
- Collaborate with teachers, pastoral staff, and parents to ensure a coordinated approach to student support.
- Support students during key transitions, including entry to Secondary School and preparation for post-secondary pathways.
- Maintain accurate, confidential records and adhere to professional and ethical standards.
- Participate in case conferences and multi-disciplinary meetings for students requiring additional support.
Qualifications & Skills:
Required
- Postgraduate qualification in Adolescent Counselling, Psychology, or a related field.
- Relevant professional accreditation (e.g., BACP or equivalent).
- Experience working with adolescents in a school setting.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
- Commitment to safeguarding and student wellbeing.
Preferred
- Experience in crisis management and risk assessment.
- Familiarity with international education systems and curricula.
- Experience with wellbeing programme development and implementation.
