The Opportunity:

We are seeking a dynamic and passionate Head of English to lead and inspire the Senior School department. This role is central to delivering high-quality English education and fostering a culture of excellence, creativity, and intellectual curiosity.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead and manage the English department, ensuring high standards of teaching and learning.
  • Develop and implement a robust curriculum that aligns with the British National Curriculum and school values.
  • Support and mentor teachers to enhance their professional development and teaching practices.
  • Monitor and evaluate student progress, ensuring effective differentiation and targeted support.
  • Collaborate with senior leadership to shape school-wide academic strategies and initiatives.
  • Engage with students, parents, and the wider school community to promote the importance of English education.
  • Oversee co-curricular activities related to English, including drama, literature, and writing competitions.
  • Ensure the effective use of ICT in teaching and learning across the department.

Qualifications & Skills:

Required

  • A good honours degree from a British university.
  • A PGCE or equivalent qualified teacher status for English teaching.
  • Previous experience as Head of Department.
  • Excellent leadership and management skills.
  • Proven ability to differentiate teaching to meet individual student needs.
  • Strong classroom management and high expectations of student behaviour and effort.
  • Organised with the ability to prioritise and meet deadlines.
  • Native level English speaker.
  • Good working knowledge of ICT systems and their application in the classroom.

Preferred

  • Previous experience in an international school.
  • Recent teaching experience in a UK-based school.
