The Opportunity:

As a 1:1 Support Assistant, you will support a child with Developmental Language Disorder (DLD) in Year 3 and beyond. You will help them access the curriculum, build communication skills, and grow socially and emotionally. This is a fixed-term, part-time role, currently needed 5 mornings per week during term-time.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Support a child with Developmental Language Disorder (DLD) through individual and classroom-based learning.
  • Adapt learning activities and monitor progress to ensure the child reaches their full potential.
  • Provide structured support that encourages positive interactions and promotes independence.
  • Collaborate closely with teaching staff and the SENCo to shape the child’s learning journey.
  • Contribute observations and feedback that align with the Primary Stage Curriculum expectations.
  • Ensure the child feels fully included in all aspects of school life.
  • Maintain a calm, empathetic, and professional approach in all interactions.
  • Work sensitively with children who have additional needs and respond thoughtfully to challenges.

Qualifications & Skills:

Required

  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Patience, empathy, and the ability to work sensitively with children who have additional needs.
  • Confidence in supporting learning and adapting activities.
  • Ability to collaborate effectively with teachers and the SENCo.
  • Commitment to helping every child succeed and thrive.

Preferred

  • Experience working with children who have Developmental Language Disorder (DLD).
  • Experience in educational support or teaching roles.
  • Knowledge of primary curriculum expectations.
  • Experience in providing 1:1 support in a school setting.
  • Strong understanding of child development and learning needs.
