The Opportunity:
As an Attendance Officer, you will play a vital role in improving pupil attendance and punctuality across the academy. You will work closely with students, families, and pastoral teams to address absenteeism and ensure compliance with attendance policies. This role is central to supporting the school’s mission of nurturing every student’s potential.
Key Responsibilities:
- Collate, maintain, and update attendance and punctuality data
- Record all attendance data and reasons for pupil absence
- Ensure all registers are completed with no missing marks or unexplained absences
- Contact absent pupils daily in line with the academy’s attendance policy
- Manage correspondence related to attendance, including issuing letters and liaising with the Senior Leadership Team
- Investigate the underlying causes of poor attendance and implement effective interventions
- Monitor the attendance of vulnerable groups and liaise with relevant staff
- Work with parents and agencies to improve attendance and provide training where appropriate
- Provide updates for staff on pupil attendance and produce statistical reports
- Initiate legal action with the Local Authority Attendance Service and manage penalty notices
- Complete CME referrals and manage the off-rolling of pupils in consultation with senior leaders
- Report concerns related to safeguarding, child protection, and data protection to the appropriate person
- Contribute to the development of systems and reward programs that improve attendance and punctuality
Qualifications & Skills:
Required
- Experience in managing attendance records and data
- Strong communication and organisational skills
- Ability to work effectively with students, parents, and staff
- Understanding of attendance policies and legal requirements
- Experience in a school or educational setting
Preferred
- Experience in dealing with vulnerable pupils and families
- Knowledge of safeguarding and child protection procedures
- Experience in data analysis and report writing
- Experience in managing legal or administrative processes
- Experience in working with local authority services
