The Opportunity:

As an Academic Tutor - Literacy, you will support students in overcoming barriers to learning and helping them develop the skills and confidence needed to succeed. This is a vital role in delivering targeted literacy programmes and contributing to student progress and achievement.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Deliver structured literacy programmes to individuals and small groups
  • Support students in overcoming learning barriers and developing independence
  • Assess, monitor, and record student progress using school systems
  • Provide high-quality feedback to students, teachers, and parents
  • Plan, adapt, and deliver learning activities aligned with departmental strategies
  • Promote inclusion, independence, and self-reliance among students
  • Mark work and administer routine assessments and examinations
  • Liaise with parents and contribute to meetings regarding student progress
  • Support behaviour management strategies and promote positive conduct
  • Assist with educational visits and out-of-school learning activities

Qualifications & Skills:

Required

  • A-Level qualification in English or equivalent
  • Experience working with children or young people (education or voluntary sector desirable)
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Strong organisational skills and ability to manage tasks within fixed timescales
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team
  • Strong IT skills
  • Empathy and understanding of barriers to learning
  • Commitment to inclusive education and equality of opportunity
  • A collaborative approach and commitment to continuous improvement
  • Strong commitment to safeguarding and professional standards

Preferred

  • Experience in literacy support or teaching
  • Experience with specialist learning support strategies
  • Experience with curriculum planning and delivery
  • Experience with student assessment and progress tracking
