The Opportunity:

As an Assistant Head of Boarding, you will play a vital role in delivering outstanding pastoral care and leadership within a thriving boarding community. This position offers a unique opportunity to contribute to a values-driven environment and prepare for future leadership roles in education.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Deputise for the Head of Boarding, leading the House team and ensuring high standards of pastoral care
  • Contribute to the promotion and development of a strong House identity and community
  • Uphold and promote the Catholic ethos through involvement in spiritual activities and faith development
  • Foster a positive and inclusive environment, supporting boarders’ academic and personal growth
  • Monitor and support boarders’ academic progress and guide subject choices
  • Promote the holistic development of boarders through co-curricular and social activities
  • Ensure the welfare and safety of boarders, maintaining vigilance and acting in loco parentis when required
  • Maintain effective communication with parents, colleagues, and support administrative tasks

Qualifications & Skills:

Required

  • A clear understanding of and commitment to the values of a Catholic independent boarding and day school
  • Ability to contribute to spiritual, moral, and faith development
  • Strong commitment to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children
  • University degree
  • Successful track record of teaching up to A Level (where applicable)
  • Knowledge or experience of boarding school environments
  • Experience of working with individuals from diverse cultural backgrounds
  • Excellent communication, organisational, IT, and management skills
  • Ability to contribute to co-curricular activities
  • Genuine professional interest in boarding and pastoral care
  • Sound judgement, initiative, and common sense
  • Ability to relate effectively to students and demonstrate empathy
  • Ability to create a nurturing and inclusive environment
  • Effective behaviour management skills

Preferred

  • Practising Catholic
  • Boarding Schools’ Association (BSA) qualification(s)
  • Qualified Teacher Status (QTS), where applicable
  • Experience as a Boarding Tutor or Boarding Assistant
