The Opportunity:

As a Senior House Matron, you will play a key role in ensuring the wellbeing and development of boarders within a welcoming and nurturing environment. This is a leadership position requiring strong organisational and pastoral care skills, with a focus on maintaining high standards of cleanliness and domestic provision across all boarding houses.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Oversee and support the team of House Matrons across all boarding houses
  • Ensure the quality of work provided by the House Matrons, offering guidance where necessary
  • Support the Heads of Boarding and Assistant Heads of Boarding in delivering outstanding pastoral care
  • Promote the Catholic ethos through participation in Mass, liturgical events, and spiritual development opportunities
  • Foster a positive and inclusive community spirit within the Houses, encouraging respect and trust
  • Ensure compliance with the Code of Conduct and maintain high standards of behaviour
  • Support boarders in adhering to uniform expectations and personal development
  • Conduct regular inspections of rooms and manage laundry and maintenance tasks
  • Assist in health and safety checks, risk assessments, and fire safety procedures
  • Maintain communication with parents and manage administrative tasks in line with National Minimum Standards

Qualifications & Skills:

Required

  • Strong understanding of and commitment to Catholic education
  • Experience in boarding school environments
  • Knowledge of safeguarding and child welfare
  • Excellent communication, organisational, and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to manage behaviour effectively
  • Good IT skills
  • Initiative and ability to work independently

Preferred

  • Practising Catholic
  • Relevant Boarding Schools’ Association (BSA) qualification(s)
  • University degree
