The Opportunity:

As an Assistant Headteacher - Pastoral, you will provide strategic leadership in pastoral care and wellbeing, ensuring that every student is supported to thrive emotionally, socially, and academically. This role is pivotal in shaping a nurturing school community that upholds the school's core values.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead the design and delivery of a proactive, values-driven pastoral strategy.
  • Embed a strong, consistent pastoral ethos throughout the school.
  • Develop and implement initiatives to enhance wellbeing and raise pastoral standards.
  • Oversee and support the work of House Masters/Mistresses and pastoral staff.
  • Promote positive mental health and emotional wellbeing for pupils and staff.
  • Uphold the highest standards of safeguarding and child protection.
  • Collaborate with teachers and House Masters to ensure cohesive pastoral support.
  • Build strong partnerships with parents and communicate proactively and sensitively.
  • Contribute to the wider life of the school and represent it professionally.

Qualifications & Skills:

Required

  • Appropriate degree with UK PGCE or equivalent teaching qualification.
  • Minimum three years of leadership experience and familiarity with the National Curriculum of England.
  • Clean criminal record check, including International Child Protection Check (ICPC).
  • Proven commitment to safeguarding and understanding of safeguarding procedures.
  • Prior teaching experience, preferably in leading independent schools.

Preferred

  • Level 3 safeguarding certificate from a trusted safeguarding trainer.
  • Passion for working with young people and helping them flourish.
  • Ability to inspire excellence in academic and pastoral development.
  • Empathy, patience, and a caring approach in supporting pupils.
  • Strong cultural sensitivity and global awareness.
  • Collaborative mindset and a drive to innovate and improve.
